Global Warming
Human activities, such as the way we travel, are increasing the amount of greenhouse gases in our planet’s atmosphere. This is causing our planet to warm and our climate to change.
Naturally occurring greenhouse gases trap heat from the sun. This keeps our planet warm enough to sustain life.

Since the industrial revolution we have increased the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere through activities such as:
– Burning fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas to heat and light our homes, fuel our vehicles and create stuff.
– The way we produce food.
– Landfilling our waste.
– Deforestation of trees and draining of peat bogs that absorb greenhouse gases.
According to figures from NASA the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere are at the highest level in hundreds of thousands of years. And more greenhouse gas in the atmosphere means more heat from the sun is being trapped. This is causing our planet to heat up and is called global warming.
This warming is causing long-term disruption in weather patterns across our planet. This is known as climate change.
