Declaring a Climate Emergency
The climate emergency (sometimes referred to as the climate crisis) is a term that describes the dangerous impacts of global warming and climate change to ecosystems and people across our planet.
Governments and local councils all across the world are declaring a climate emergency. Here in Scotland, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon declared a climate emergency in April 2019.
The IPCC report on the physical science basis of climate change published in August 2021 was dubbed a ‘code red for humanity’ by the UN Secretary-General. The report made it clear that we are living in a climate emergency and that we must act now to drastically reduce our impact on the planet.
